National Assembly unanimously passes resolution to lift ban on YouTube

Islamabad- The National Assembly (NA) today has unanimously passed a resolution seeking to lift ban on YouTube in Pakistan. The resolution was tabled by Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) MNA Shazia Mari. She said that every Muslim country of the world had lifted the ban on YouTube, adding that the video sharing website could also be accessed through proxy. Mari asked in the National Assembly that why we were adopting double standards on the issue. During the session State Minister Saira Afzal Tarar said the YouTube was banned during the PPPs era and that the government also wanted to re-open YouTube but in the light of court’s directives. She stressed all the political parties to solve the issue with the consultation. It is pertinent to mention here that the video sharing website was banned in Pakistan in September 2012 after publishing abusive anti-Islam movie.
