Court splits couple found to be siblings in Saudi Arabia after 25 years

A Saudi court ordered the divorce of a local couple after 25 years of marriage on the grounds they are siblings who have been breastfed by the same woman when they were babies, a newspaper reported on Sunday. The court in the central town of Rass said it has sufficient evidence that the man and his wife, who have seven children, have been breastfed by the same woman, making their marriage illegal. “The court divorced the couple after they were found to be siblings who were breastfed by the same woman when they were babies,” Al Watan said. It said the court’s sentence was in line with a recommendation by Saudi Arabia’s mufti (top Islamic figure) Sheikh Abdul Aziz Al Shaikh.
