Natural beauty treatments in your kitchen
1) oatmeal:
Found in a range of beauty products, oatmeal is famed for its skin-soothing properties. Add a handful of oats (the same kind you eat for breakfast) into a bath and soak for 15 minutes to soften the skin. To make a gentle exfoliation, mix oatmeal with warm water and apply to the face in circular motions, then rinse off.
2) Coconut oil:
Natural oils have been used throughout history for their hydrating properties. If you’re prone to acne, avoid heavy oils (like olive oil) and opt for coconut oil, which is less likely to block the pores. Smooth on to damp skin for an ultra-hydrating moisture boost.
3) Honey
A natural antiseptic, honey has been used for wound healing for centuries. Because it kills bacteria, it is sometimes found as an ingredient in natural products for acne treatment. Best suited to those with dry skin, apply directly to the face as a moisturiser.
4) Pumpkin
Often found in facial peels, pumpkin contains an enzyme that gently peels away dead skin and speeds up the production of new cells. It’s also rich in hydrating essential fatty acids and antioxidants which fight free radicals that can cause skin to lose elasticity. Best for normal to oily skins, mash it up and apply to the face.
5) Egg whites
Egg whites act as a mild astringent, helping to firm and tone the skin. Apply to the face and leave to dry for 10 minutes before rinsing off. As the egg whites dry on the face, they lift dirt and debris out of the pores and soak up excess oil, making it a good choice for those with acne.
6) Green tea
Green tea isn’t just good for your health, it can help improve your skin too. Take two bags and dampen with cold water then apply to the eyes for 10 minutes to help reduce puffiness and dark circles.
7) Natural yoghurt
Good for your digestive health, plain natural yoghurt can do wonders for your complexion. Apply directly to the face and leave for 15-20 minutes to cleanse the skin and tighten pores.
8) Banana
For a natural moisture boost, try mashing up a medium-sized banana into a smooth paste and apply to the face and neck. Leave for 15 minutes and then rinse with warm water.
9) Milk
There’s a good reason Cleopatra bathed in milk! To sooth sensitive skin make a face mask by mixing powered milk with a little water to form a thick paste. Smooth on to your face, let it dry and rise with warm water
10) Sugar
If you suffer with dry and chapped lips, a weekly sugar scrub will help keep them smooth. Mix some finely granulated sugar with honey and mix into a paste. Apply to the lips with a toothbrush and scrub for a couple of minutes, then rise off.
