Saudi Arabia Starts Rehabilitation programme for extremist women
JEDDAH: Saudi Arabia’s interior ministry has confirmed this news that they are going to established a special programme regarding to rehabilitation of extremist women who were arrested previously because they are involved in terrorist activities. Interior Ministry spokesperson Major General Mansour Al-Turki said that women who have been arrested in connection with terrorism activities will be involved in a special rehabilitation program like men and for this purpose we will also involve their families. Only a limited number of women are detained on suspected terrorism charges compared with men. Although Al-Turki did not clarify whether there would be a special female department at the ‘Mohammed bin Naif Consulting and Care Centre’ which is devoted to correcting behavioural patterns and ideas that lean toward terrorism. “Saudi Arabia has released 166 former Al-Qaeda members and former militants after they underwent a long-term state-sponsored counselling program in 2013 aimed at reintegrating them into society,” said Major General Mansour Al-Turki.
