WhatsApp Grows Like Crazy: Gets 700 Million Users
WhatsApp, the company that Facebook bought with $19 billion last year, is growing at mind-boggling pace. It just crossed 700 million users mark with 300 million users signing up just last year. Today, WhatsApp users send over 30 billion text messages daily but for the Facebook owned company, that’s not enough, adding voice calling feature is on top on WhatsApp’s to-do list. Company’s CEO Jan Koum released these figures via a Facebook status update just a few hours ago. He spoke about adding more features in the coming days: As humbled and excited as we are by these numbers and our continued growth, we’re even more excited to keep building a great product in 2015. WhatsApp CEO WhatsApp CEO, Jan Koum WhatsApp was acquired by Facebook on a nearly blank-check price of $19 billion. Since then, WhatsApp has been growing at a rapid and continuous pace. Last year alone WhatsApp added 300 million users and the graph is still going up. Currently, it is adding 25 million users each month. That’s translates almost a million sign-ups per day! With the addition of Voice-Over-Internet-Protocol, WhatsApp will become a direct competitor with Skype, the messenger service currently owned by Microsoft. This is the reason WhatsApp is focusing so much on enhancing its user-base because they want to compete with Skype in future. It seems evident that we are in for an exciting year in the field of technology where giants are about to collide for the thorn.
