PTCL & Dailymotion to provide video digital services in Pakistan

Pakistan Telecommunication Company Ltd. (PTCL) has entered into an agreement with famous video portal Dailymotion in order to provide video digital services in Pakistan. This agreement among the two companies will result in better user experience of video content for internet users in Pakistan. Ever since the ban on YouTube in September 2012, Dailymotion has become the main source of online video content. With PTCL being the largest internet service provider in Pakistan, this partnership will pave the way for legitimacy of Pakistani content on Dailymotion Bytes For All, an NGO that is fighting the cases related to Ban on YouTube and internet surveillance in Pakistan using FinFisher has said on its official Facebook page, about the deal, that official reason might be a ‘better user experience’. “However, in more practical terms, will this arrangement translate into a secret censorship deal like that of Facebook and PTA?” Even if the doubts of Bytes For All are given some weightage then the people of Pakistan themselves are not much interested in their cyber rights and only 22% of them are against the government funded censorship. This agreement can do little good to mobile users as majority of Android phones can access YouTube in Pakistan without any problem.
