Why there is need to introduce WiFi, Mifi, Dongles and Wingles

Mobilink has just recently announced to introduce MiFi devices, besides this, it has already available USB Dongles, in order to penetrate the 3G services among the customers.MiFi Apart from that, Warid has also rolled out MiFi devices a few weeks ago and after that Zong came up with a range of mobile broadband devices consisting of Wingle, Mifi and Dongle. These mobile broadband devices allow the subscribers to use the high speed of 3G or 4G on their smartphone, laptop, tablet or even personal computer. But the question arises, why the cellular operators find it necessary to introduce these devices in the presence of abundant cloud devices offered by PTCL and other internet services providers like Wi-tribe and Wateen, which are also popular among the masses. Well, after the auction of 3G and 4G services in Pakistan, the operators are constantly in a quest to expand their mobile internet subscribers to get the return on purchase of these licences at a fairly high cost from the government. Though 3G has attracted more than 9 million subscribers in a less span of time but the popularity of 4G services among the masses is really sluggish. By now, Zong has merely 5,023 4G subscribers while Warid has secured 44,075 LTE subscribers. In addition to this, the 4G smartphones are relatively expensive and are less abundant in Pakistan, while the 4G network coverage has not reached far-flung areas, creating a major barrier in the penetration of such services. Therefore, cellular operators are coming up with WiFi, Wingle, MiFi or Dongle devices to expand the circle of their broadband services from smartphones to laptops, tablets or even personal computers. Warid has also offered shared data plans along with the MiFi device that allows the customers to combine all their smartphone and laptop mobile broadband bills on a single contract and hopefully other operators will be rolling out shared data plans as soon as the competition will increase. For those who don’t know: MiFi is a portable router which connects to a USB port of computer/laptop or it can work as a wireless modem by enabling its Wi-Fi feature and will run for 6 hours without any charge. Wingle also plugs into the laptop, PC or similar USB port. It supports up to 10 wi-fi devices through its hotspot. Last but not the least, Dongle is a device which plugs into laptop, PC or any other USB port and supports internet connection to a single device.
