Solar System Project for Racecourse Park facing irregularities

Owing to the ongoing electricity crisis, the Punjab Government initiated a lot of projects to install solar panels throughout the province and the Racecourse Park Lahore (also known as Jilani Park) is one of the targeted place to provide with solar lights. However, when the Monitoring and Evaluation Department looked into the matter, it was revealed that this project is critically surrounded by irregularities and infringements.Solar More precisely, the report has revealed that several solar panels installed in the range of Racecourse Park are not operational while 68 of them are being used as a standby system on Wapda supply. There is no record found of the equipment and the staff appointed for the project is also inexperienced. The project to install solar panels in Race Course Park was initiated with Rs. 14.5 million according to it, the park was supposed to be equipped with 105 poles having solar lights and additionally, the different campaigns and seminars were also supposed to be arranged in order spread awareness among the public the regarding solar system and energy saving. The Environment Protection Department (EPD) of Punjab was appointed to be responsible for the completion of the project while the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) was given the maintenance responsibility after the completion.
