The Assistant Manager Operations – Foods will support the effective running of manufacturing operations at the plant. The role is accountable for manufacturing performance across engineering (planned and preventive), utilities, facilities, and palletisation areas. The position ensures that all manufactured products meet Unilever’s quality, hygiene, safety, and engineering standards while fostering a high-performance culture on the shop floor.
Manage a high-volume, flexible manufacturing operation on a day-to-day basis
Proactively support and guide the manufacturing team to achieve operational targets
Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to safety, quality, cost efficiency, and performance
Improve manufacturing yields and efficiency through people development, systems, and optimal equipment utilization
Balance plant-level priorities with broader business requirements
Monitor, measure, and evaluate performance initiatives, taking corrective actions where required
Embed a strong culture of safety, quality, and compliance across all manufacturing areas
Build strong working relationships across all levels of the manufacturing function to promote innovation and continuous improvement
Ensure compliance with Unilever standards, procedures, legal requirements, and ISO systems
Maintain and enforce engineering standards in line with local and statutory legislation and Health & Safety requirements
Lead and drive a performance-focused culture on the shop floor
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (mandatory)
3–5 years of experience in relevant manufacturing or “Make” roles
Prior experience in a high-volume FMCG manufacturing environment preferred
Strong communication and teamwork skills across all organizational levels
Proven managerial experience in manufacturing operations
Excellent interpersonal skills and organizational awareness
Demonstrated ability to deliver efficient production while meeting quality, hygiene, and safety standards
Experience working in unionized environments
Capability to lead teams through periods of change
Comfortable working cross-functionally within the supply chain
