Mr. Zahoor Hussain Qureshi is a respected Pakistani parliamentarian who represents Khanewal as a Member of the National Assembly (MNA). Throughout his political career, he has demonstrated unwavering commitment to his constituency and played an active role in shaping national policies.
Early Life and Education
Born on December 19, 1973, in Lahore, Mr. Qureshi comes from a family with a strong political heritage. He pursued higher education abroad, earning an MBA from Wake Forest University in the United States in 1997. Political Career
Mr. Qureshi began his political journey at the grassroots level, serving as Union Nazim of Tehsil Mian Channu in Khanewal District from 2001 to 2002. His dedication and leadership qualities led him to win a seat in the Provincial Assembly of Punjab in the 2002 general elections as a candidate of the Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians (PPPP), where he served until 2007.
In the 2013 general elections, he contested for the National Assembly from NA-158 (Khanewal-III) as a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate but was unsuccessful. Nevertheless, he remained determined to serve his people.
His persistence was rewarded in the 2018 general elections, where he was elected to the National Assembly from NA-152 (Khanewal-III) as a PTI candidate. Mr. Qureshi secured 109,257 votes, defeating his opponent Aslam Bodla of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). During this tenure, he was appointed as the Federal Parliamentary Secretary for Power, playing an important role in addressing Pakistan’s energy challenges.
In the 2024 general elections, Mr. Qureshi contested as an independent candidate from NA-146 (Khanewal-III) and was victorious once again, obtaining 112,666 votes and defeating Aslam Bodla for the second time.
Political Affiliations
Throughout his career, Mr. Qureshi has been affiliated with several political parties. He began with the Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians, then joined Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, and most recently, in 2025, became a member of the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP).
Family Legacy
Politics is deeply ingrained in Mr. Qureshi’s family. His father, Shujaat Hasnain Qureshi, served as a Senator and was also a member of both the National and Provincial Assemblies. His maternal grandfather, Makhdoom Sajjad Hussain Qureshi, was Governor of Punjab from 1985 to 1988. Furthermore, his uncle, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, is a prominent politician who has served as Pakistan’s Foreign Minister.
Contributions and Initiatives
Mr. Qureshi has consistently focused on the development of Khanewal, with particular emphasis on improving infrastructure, enhancing educational facilities, and resolving energy issues. His role as Federal Parliamentary Secretary for Power allowed him to contribute significantly to policy formulation aimed at easing the country’s ongoing energy crisis.
