Telenor Pakistan has recently come up with a new 3G internet bundle at Rs. 8 and the company claims it to be an unlimited offer however this is not true since the word ‘Unlimited is merely a deception to promote the offer and the actual limit of this offer is 5GB.
However, not only Telenor has found to be using this term but this is something really common tactic which is being adopted by all other cellular companies of Pakistan in order to make their offers more catchy. And soon after the user consumes the provided level of limit (which is always there even it is said to be unlimited), the service gets either very sluggish or automatically turned off by the company.
The advertisements we see on our television screens, or the billboards or on the social media pages by the cellular companies with the caption of unlimited SMS, internet and call packages are only to attract the consumers easily although it is clear violation of the rules set by Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP).
According to CCP, if an operator uses the word unlimited in advertising any telecommunication service, it has to clearly define what aspect of the service the term applies to, and also disclose any other conditions that may qualify the offer. Click here to see detailed guidelines by CCP regarding marketing practices for Telecom sector.
Mobilink, Warid, Ufone and Zong, PTCL and others are also found to be using ,Unlimited, while making it confusing for the customers to evaluate the offer effectively.
So now do not get deceived by these telecom companies and every time you see a word like unlimited in any advertisement, remember that there must be a back-end limit which is not being clearly defined by company which makes the only sense that they are ridiculously unaware of the fact that what actually ,Unlimited, is.
