Google to halt Google News in Spain, Engineering Offices in Russia

Google has recently declared in a Blog post that it is about to blackout Google News in Spain on December 16 and the reason defined for this by the company is the new law by the Spanish Government which is coming into effect from January of the soon approaching year. This new Spanish law requires every Spanish publication to charge for showing even a smallest piece of their publication and the failure to obey with this new law would have to pay a fine of €600,000. Google News director Richard Gingras has confirmed this news by saying that, “Sadly, as a result of a new Spanish law, we,ll shortly have to close Google News in Spain.” And he further added that “As Google News itself makes no money (we do not show any advertising on the site) this new approach is simply not sustainable,” With this announcement, Google is not only shutting down Google News in Spain but also removing Spanish publishers from the other international News sites. Google News is one of the popular and free news aggregator by Google Inc. which provides most up-to-date information from thousands of publications all over the world in more than 70 international editions and covers 35 languages. Not only this, the search engine giant is taking another important step to shut its engineering operations in Russia recently due to new imposition in the form of policies on the Web companies that require companies to store data in the data centers located in the country regarding Russian citizens nevertheless the sales operations are supposed to continue. Politicians who introduced the bill complained that data stored outside Russia was at risk of being hacked and stolen by criminals. According to thenextweb, Google is asked to comment on this and they said that “we are deeply committed to our Russian users and customers and we have a dedicated team in Russia working to support them.” So it is now noticeable that Google is getting famous for taking decisions against governments that impose too much control over its operations and without wasting any time it takes prompt steps to clear its stance.
