Polio worker injured in Mohmand blast

PESHAWAR: A polio worker was injured Monday in a remote-controlled Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast in Mohmand Agency,s Safi tehsil. Sources say that polio vaccinator, Sanab Gul, was targeted in the Chamarkand area of Safi tehsil while he was on way to attend a meeting on polio vaccination. The wounded polio worker was shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment where his condition was reported as critical. BDS official injured while defusing bomb In a separate incident, a bomb disposal official was injured while defusing a bomb in Soran area of Mohmand Agency,s Bezai tehsil. Search operation in Khyber tribal region Security forces launched a search operation in Shah Kas area of Khyber Agency after receiving reports regarding the presence of elements involved in terror activities. Local administration and security forces cordoned off the area and imposed a curfew during the operation. Pakistan Army launched the operation Khyber-1, in October with airstrikes against Lashkar-i-Islam (LI) hideouts in areas under the Mangal Bagh-led group,s control in Tirah and Bara. The latest operation was launched amidst Zarb-i-Azb, a full-fledged military operation being conducted by the Army against Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and other militants in the North Waziristan tribal region. Khyber and Mohmand are among Pakistan,s seven semi-autonomous tribal districts near the Afghan border, rife with homegrown insurgents and foreign militants. Smugglers arrested, arms recovered Police claimed to have arrested three persons, including two women, from Peshawar,s Badaber area who were smuggling arms and ammunition from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to Punjab. SP (Rural) Shakir Bangash, while giving a briefing to media representatives, said that 25 pistols, 2 G3 rifles, 5 Kalashnikov/AK-47 rifles and 7,200 rounds were recovered from a vehicle in Badaber area on the outskirts of Peshawar.
