Homepage Telecom Mobile Phone import slightly increased

Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) has reported that the Mobile Phone import has increased by 3.23% to $224.594 million during the first four months of the fiscal year 2014-15 i.e. from July to October. These handset imports were $217.568 million in the same quarter of the last year which shows Pakistani mobile phone market relatively experienced strong sales this year thus pushed towards increased imports. In October, the figure placed at $58.596 million, 3.37% less than the same period of the last year but experienced a surge in 15.26% in September as compared to the same period of 2013. The imports cost $60.641 million in October 2013 and $50.839 million in September 2014. On the similar pattern, telecom imports also met an increase of 25.37% and rose up to $524.81 million during the first quarter of fiscal year 2014-15, mainly due to the influx of 3G and 4G services. The telecom imports during October 2014 increased by 9.16% and decreased in September to 7.53%. Overall Telecom imports in October 2014 stood at $117 .99 million against the imports of $108.087 in the same period of the last year. This shows Pakistani handset market is gradually expanding. We have abundance of feature phone owners but the market is slowly evolving with the introduction of smartphones. Companies like Apple and Sony have officially launched in Pakistan. Big players like Huawei and Samsung are fighting to grab their fair share in the market and this fierce competition is pushing these manufacturers to come up with cheap devices which is causing inclined trends in handset sales.
