3G subscribers cross 10 million mark in Pakistan

Telecommunication regulatory authority of Pakistan (PTA) has just updated the statistics regarding the 3G and 4G services according to which, the cellular operators have successfully crossed 10 million mark for 3G subscribers. Thus, the total number of next-generation mobile service (NGMS) users are 10,342,191 by February 2015. According to this data, the users of 4G services are around 68,000 out of which Warid has secured some 61,000 while Zong possesses over 7000 4G subscribers. But the penetration of 3G services is skyrocketing as it has attracted more than 10 million subscribers within first 8 month of the auction. 3G subscribers Therefore looking at the rapid growth of the subscribers, the government of Pakistan has decided to auction the remaining 3G and 4G spectrums within coming months which were left unsold during the auction process last year. According to officials of Ministry of IT, The Ministry of Finance has also directed to the auction of the remaining spectrums for Next Generation Mobile Services before June of the current fiscal year. In addition to this, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has arranged a meeting with the CEO’s of the Cellular Mobile Operators (CMO) tomorrow to discuss the upcoming auction, as well as the progress of biometric verification of SIMs
