Government signs agreement with PTCL for E-governance in Pakistan

Pakistan is moving nearer to a transparent governance system with E-office as recently an agreement for its Data Center was signed between Electronic Government Directorate (EGD) and Pakistan Telecommunication Company Ltd (PTCL) for E-governance. Talking on occasion, Minister of State for information & technology Ms. Anusha Rehman said that “it is an historic occasion that finally the strenuous and ceaseless efforts by the Ministry of IT the agreement for data hosting facilities regarding implementation of E-office project have been signed.” Minister also pressed upon the completion of the project in the projected time phase. Deal for data center and eventual implementation for e-governance was pending since 2007. Now with this deal between the two entities, it can be hoped that work continues on the project to ensure a smooth transition from current red-tape ridden bureaucratic system into fast-paced and timely functioning of the government. Another point that should be kept in mind while developing the system, is its security. In current era of NSA and international hacking attacks, it seems more than necessary to work for a secure working platform to safeguard precious information related to the government and public of Pakistan Update E-governance system is working effectively in Prime Minister Office and National Assembly. Meetings are being held among ministries to fast track the roll out of this efficient system of governance which has both accountability and much needed check and balance for the government employees and duties that they perform.
