South Korea introduces smartphone app to curb student suicide
The education ministry of South Korea has announced a smartphone application which will keep an eye on the students through social media posts, messages and web searches for the suicide-related terms. As soon as the app will detect any word related to suicide, it will send an alert to the parents of students regarding the seriousness of the matter and warn them that their children might be at risk. South Korea This step has been taken owing to the highest suicide rate especially among the youth as more than half of the teenagers of South Korea, aged between 14 to 19 confessed that they considered suicidal thoughts, according to a survey conducted by the government. The reason behind the inclination to suicide is high levels of depression and stress anxiety caused due to extraordinary demands of the South Korea ,s education system. With the announcement of this app by the education ministry, some people seconded the idea as it will help in the prevention of suicide attempts. However, many others have criticized it as they believed that it is not the contemporary solution and fails to address the root cause.
