Around 13 million SIMs verified, further 1 million blocked

It’s been three weeks since the telecom operators of Pakistan on the directions of Interior Ministry, started the process of SIM re-verification and by now, around 13 million SIMs have been verified biometrically under this new process and additional one million unregistered SIMs have been blocked.SIMs This was said by Chairman Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Dr. Ismail Shah during an interview with a correspondent of Radio Pakistan. The Chairman further said that around 12.2 million people have approached the customer services centers of their respective operators in last 22 days while a huge sum of SIMs is still to be verified before the deadline. Keeping in mind the temporal proximity of the deadline given by Interior Ministry, Telecom operators have also started spread awareness among their subscribers to cooperate with the respective telecom companies and get their SIMs re-verified as soon as possible. Telcos have been using the medium of social media and also sending SMS to their subscribers for this purpose while Mobilink has just recently broadcasted a TV advertisement with the caption of ‘Apni Pehchan Ap Banao’ to ask their subscribers for SIM verification. On the other hand, Zong is offering some perks in order to drag its customers to the Customers Service centers, Franchise or retailer to re-verify their SIMs. However, the matter of re-verification of SIMs within 90 days has not only become a challenging task for the cellular operators but thousands of citizens are also facing difficulties in this process.
