Telenor sponsors IT lab to empower women
Telenor Pakistan has sponsored a well-equipped IT lab at Women Development and Empowerment Center which is recently inaugurated in Islamabad. Telenor This center is said to offer advanced computer courses to the women belonging to marginalised segments of society. The sponsored equipment by Telenor includes 20 computers along with highly trained staff who will provide excellent training to the women. Apart from advanced computer courses, this center will offer the other training skills as well. The Minister of State for Information Technology and Telecommunication Anusha Rahman while inaugurating this dedicated center established by Pakistan Baitul Maal said: Quaid-e-Azam believed that no country could grow without equal participation of women. She continued by saying women make up the 50% of the total population of Pakistan and, therefore, the government is taking sound steps in order to facilitate them by providing opportunities. In addition to this, Anusha revealed that the government is about to initiate a project ‘ICT for Girls’ which will enable the girls to earn their livelihood. With the help of this project, girls who did not continue their studies after matriculation owing to various reasons will be able to work from homes on computers.
