The world has witnessed so many innovations in the field of Health and medicine by using latest technology but now get ready to hear something new in this regard since the researchers from Tufts University’s School of Engineering has introduced an innovative Implantable medical device (IMD) to treat bacterial infections using WiFi. Sounds unbelievable but its true! WiFi signals to Treat infections The researchers experimented a Staphylococcus aureus infected mice and implanted the device into it and give heat treatments to the infected tissues through wireless signals and after 24 hours of treatment, they collected the tissues from the same mice and found no signs of infection. The more interesting thing is that the implantable device has the property to completely dissolve in the tissues in 15 days as it is made up of silk and magnesium and is said to have no side effects on the surrounding tissues. According to Fiorenzo Omenetto who is a professor of bio-medical engineering at the Tufts University, “This is an important step forward for the development of on-demand medical devices that can be turned on remotely to perform a therapeutic function in a patient and then safely disappear after their use, requiring no retrieval and these wireless strategies could help manage post-surgical infection, for example, or pave the way for eventual ‘WiFi’ drug delivery.” The implantable medical devices are not usually dissolvable but this is the very first device of this nature having wireless technology which is something really amazing. But these new wireless therapy devices can handle the surgical process, and can then dissolve in minutes or weeks, depending on the time needed.
